Embracing Sabbath Serenity: Resisting Distractions to Honor Yah
Sermon -Standing Firm Against Distractions on the Sabbath
Beloved, shalom and welcome to this sacred gathering, where we honor the Most High and find refuge from the noise of this world. Today, as we stand united in the mission of WBJMinistries, let us take a moment to recognize the significance of the Sabbath—a day Yah has set apart, a day that carries both universal law and divine sanctity. It's not merely a commandment, but a covenant—a gift of peace, strength, and restoration for His children.
The Halaleyah Scriptures reveal the beauty and the weight of the Sabbath. In Shemot (Exodus) 31:13, Yah speaks: "You shall keep My Sabbaths, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am Yah, who sets you apart."
This Sabbath covenant is a powerful reminder that Yah chose us, set us apart, and gave us a way to return to Him in spirit and truth. The Sabbath isn’t just a day off from work; it is a sacred alignment with universal law, a rhythm designed to realign our minds, bodies, and spirits with His perfect will.
But we know distractions are everywhere, and on this day of rest, they seem to intensify. Why? Because the enemy knows the power of a focused, devoted Sabbath. The adversary will try every tactic to draw us away, whether through our errands, or anxieties that fill our minds. Yet Yahusha HaMashiach teaches us that, on the Sabbath, we must fix our eyes on the things above. He said in (MattithYahu)Matthew 6:33, "Seek first the kingdom of Elohim and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."
This means we don't need to worry or get tangled up in the distractions that the world throws at us. Yahusha understood that the Sabbath requires a dedication beyond just abstaining from physical work; it requires us to clear our minds and hearts so we can truly enter into Yah's presence.
Consider this- the universal laws created by Yah align with the Sabbath. Just as the moon and stars follow a divine rhythm, so does the Sabbath provide a rhythm for our lives. Imagine the ocean—though powerful, it is bound to its tides and cycles. So too are we, bound to the cycle Yah has set, where every seventh day, we pause and are refreshed. When we honor this rhythm, we’re blessed; when we ignore it, we feel that disconnection from Yah and from ourselves.
Beloved, in these times, how do we resist the pull of distractions on the Sabbath? Let us turn to Yah’s Word and find our strength. In Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 58:13-14, Yah gives us clear instructions, "If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on My set-apart day, and call the Sabbath a delight, the set-apart day of Yah esteemed, and shall esteem it, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words, then you shall delight yourself in Yah."
To call the Sabbath a "delight" is to see it not as an obligation but as a joy, an invitation to step away from worldly noise and distractions and enter His peace. But to call it a delight means surrendering our distractions—social media, worries, chores. The enemy whispers, "Just check one message," or "Just complete this one task," but Yah reminds us to be steadfast, to say, "No, this is Yah's time."
Let us remember the example of Yahusha HaMashiach who, though surrounded by people in need, found moments to withdraw, to pray, to align with Yah. (Luqas) Luke 5:16 tells us, "But He often withdrew to lonely places and prayed." Even in His mission, He showed us the necessity of solitude and sacred time with the Father.
As WBJMinistries, let us make it our mission to stand firm, to encourage one another to honor the Sabbath fully. It’s our act of worship and a witness to the world that we serve a Mighty Elohim who is above all distractions and who gives us strength to overcome them.
In closing, beloved, take this Sabbath as a time to realign with the universal law, the rhythm of rest Yah has so lovingly given. Let us remember that the Sabbath is not only a command but a deep, loving invitation from Yah Himself. This is our time to set aside the burdens, the notifications, the worries, and to enter the sacred presence of Yah. Let us honor this day, set it apart, and watch as Yah pours His blessings over us.
Stand firm, resist distractions, and let this Sabbath be a holy, undivided time with Yah. May WBJMinistries continue to shine as a beacon of this truth, helping others find peace and strength in the beauty of Yah’s Sabbath. HalleluYah, so be it.
