🕊️ WBJMinistries Sermon ~ The Paper That Speaks; A Word on The Amsterdam News

🙏🏽🤲🏼🙌🏼📿🛐
O Sovereign Yah, who commands both silence and speech,
We thank you for the voice that will not be quieted.
We thank you for The Amsterdam News,
For the courage in type, for the ink that testifies,
For the hands that folded the truth into each paper.
Let us be pages in your will, printed with your purpose.
Halleluyah.
📍The Paper That Speaks; Light in Black Ink. 🌍 Geography & Anthropology
From its roots in Harlem, The Amsterdam News has been more than a newspaper. It is been a cultural landmark. First published in 1909 by James H. Anderson with just $10, it began in a basement and rose to become one of the most influential Black newspapers in the United States. This is not just journalism. It is cultural preservation, a witness to migration, struggle, faith, and victory in the Black community. Just like sacred scrolls of old, its pages carried both warning and wisdom.
📖 Scripture Reference (Halaleyah Scriptures)
> Mishley (Proverbs) 31:8 – “Open your mouth for the dumb, In the cause of all who are appointed to destruction.”
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 58:1 – “Cry aloud, do not spare. Lift up your voice like a shofar…”
✨ Symbolism & Imagery~ Every edition of The Amsterdam News is a lampstand (Mattithyahu 5:15), shining in neighborhoods often overlooked. The ink is not just black, it is ancestral memory. The printing press becomes the altar, and the journalist the priest, interceding through facts, calling for justice, and reminding us that we were never invisible. Even in times of silence, The Amsterdam News spoke.
🕯️ Museum & Historical Resonance ~ As you walk through the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, or into the Museum of the City of New York, archives of this newspaper tell stories of Malcolm, Ella Baker, Shirley Chisholm, and quiet heroes whose names were never on television but were known in these pages. Just like Torah scrolls preserved in synagogues, The Amsterdam News is a living archive of righteous resistance.
🌌 Philosophy & Cosmos ~ Plato once said, “The penalty good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.” The Amsterdam News chose not to be indifferent. Like stars aligned in constellations, its stories are scattered across time though form a greater truth, a universe of dignity, correction, and liberation.
📊 Applied Statistics & Law~ Social science reminds us; media shapes perception. From stop-and-frisk to educational inequality, The Amsterdam News has published the numbers, broken them down, and amplified Black voices that might otherwise be silenced. This is not just reporting, this is data turned into justice.
💡 Closing Reflection ~ When you read The Amsterdam News, you are not just reading about the world, you are seeing it from the mountaintop. This paper has never asked to be liked. It has asked to be heard.

O Yah of prophets, print our names in the Book of Life.
Let our lives echo like front-page truth.
May we never be afraid to write the truth You have shown us.
And may our stories glorify You.
We seal this word in light and boldness.
Halleluyah.
